Adolphe de Mourgues, born in Vienne in the Isère, was a student of the School of Fine Arts Lyon and of the sculptor Joseph Fabisch. De Mourgues exhibited this Ecce Homo at the exhibition of the Society of Lyonnais Artists in 1886. In his journal, the Lyon-Revue, Félix Desvernay has left us a review of this exhibition where he mentions the work of de Mourgues : “De Mourgues. – His head of Christ : Ecce homo certainly has a traditional expression. One could say that it is orthodox art.” (Félix Desvernay, Lyon-Revue, Tome XI, septième année, Lyon 1886)
