Maslaghan rug, Iran, circa 1960, hand-knotted wool measuring 132 cm wide by 200 cm long, in perfect condition.
Typical decoration of the central cut-out medallion of Maslaghan rugs, placed on a lacerated field of large points, recognizable at first glance by all amateurs and with very attractive colors.
The small village of Kerdar in Iran, is the only place where the Maslaghan are tied. We recognize them, thanks to this large field in the shape of a diamond with zigzag sides that take up the spandrels (corners). Extending along the edges, and meeting in the length of the rug, this creates a completely unusual decor.
Our carpet is widely strewn with flowers: roses, carnations, and daisies (slightly resembling the Minakhani, pattern of Veramin carpets).
The four spandrels bring out on a black background, beautiful flowery rows taking up all the shades of the carpet.
The magnificent plain scarlet red medallion contrasts completely with the rest of the rug and gives it an intense decorative aspect.
The border is tied with large flowers posed in the symbolism of water and counter-borders align small botehs all around. In the end, a Maslaghan rug of great beauty.
