"Seventeenth Century Travel Cabinet In Exotic And Indigenous Wood."
This drop-leaf cabinet, although quite large, is a travel model with its wrought iron side handles, it is a work of the 17th century, also called bargueno and originating in Spain. The exterior of this chest has the advantage of being made of solid mahogany, the beautiful boards with a deep reflection brought by boat and coming from distant lands are assembled with invisible dovetails, on this wood with a reddish brown tone take place beautiful wrought iron ironwork, with angles, drooping handles, bolts and hasp lock, Opening with a flap on the front, once opened the cabinet has a writing surface with the back of the flap decorated with a work in intarsia and a set of drawers of different sizes, the facades are in walnut with reserves formed by amaranth and maple nets framing a decoration with a pattern of scrolls and flowers also in maple and amaranth which by their symmetrical designs recalling the ironwork work. The drawers are mounted in oak and assembled with dovetails, The fronts of the drawers are fitted with wrought iron pull pendants on perforated rosettes as well as a cut iron keyhole, a keyhole is missing on the lower left drawer and 2 pendants have been replaced by wooden knobs for 2 lower drawers. This beautiful piece of furniture, which is around 350 years old, has old restorations but a beautiful integrity and above all a very beautiful deep patina highlighted by a waxed finish with a buffer.
