Large Italian Or Corsican Styletto, Circa 1780-1800
The temptation is great to attribute this large stylet to Corsica, but in the absence of certainty, I prefer to consider that it probably originated in southern Italy. I let the specialists decide.
It is a massive weapon, in the spirit of strong hunting daggers.
BLADE: Beautiful very solid blade, with 2 cutting edges. Narrow central groove on each side.
On one of the faces, remains of plant decoration over a dozen centimeters.
The base of the blade is protected by a kind of brass ring with the edge cut in the shape of an accolade.
On one of the cutting edges, small combat mark 10 cm from the guard, and on the other 2 small combat marks 6.5 and 8 cm from the guard.
Blade length 30 cm Width at the hilt 4 cm, thickness near the hilt 0.4 cm
GUARD: Made of brass, with ball-shaped quillons.
HANDLE: It is in goat horn, with a decoration in double brass wire binding. A brass ferrule ensures the junction with the handle, and on the opposite side, a sort of brass pommel protects the end of the horn.
In conclusion, very beautiful powerful weapon, which as soon as we take it in hand makes us feel the values of strength, courage and honor. (alas perhaps a little too out of fashion in today's world…)
