Signed and dated on the right arm: Marie Gallaud / 1896
Born in Paris in 1867, the sculptress Marie Gallaud exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon and the Union of Women Painters and Sculptors during the 1890s. Later Gallaud was also a photographer and writer. As a sculptor, she specialised in the busts of old people with a pronounced aesthetic of the beauty of wrinkles. There are similar busts in the museum of Avallonnais Jean Després (also in plaster) and the museum of Grenoble (in bronze).
