"Japanese Print, "the Courtesans", Kitagawa Utamaro Born Around 1753 And Died October 31, 1806."
We present a Japanese print representing courtesans of the Japanese painter Kitagawa Utamaro born around 1753 and died October 31, 1806, a specialist in the ukiyo-e movement. He is particularly known for his depictions of pretty women, but his work also includes many nature and animal scenes, as well as erotic albums. His work reached the West in the 19th century where it met with great success. He particularly influenced the Impressionists with his daring framing and the graphics of his prints. He was nicknamed in 1891 by Edmond de Goncourt "The painter of green houses" (brothels), even if only a third of the very numerous prints that we know of him were actually devoted to the Yoshiwara. Print "Les courtesans" end of the 18th century. In very good shape. Private collection. Dimensions: Frame: h.56 cm x l.44 cm. Print: h.37 cm x w.25 cm.
