The romantic painting was made by the German painter Jacobus Leisten, born in 1844 in Düsseldorf (died in 1918). He is famous as a genre and historical painter, studied under W. Sohn, 1869-73 in Munich, 1895-96 undertook a study trip to Italy. His works can be found in the museums of Elberfeld and Bremen, in the city museums of Coburg and Gotha.
