Emile Thysebaert, 1873-1963, Belgian painter of animated scenes, portraits, landscapes, animals and religious compositions. Pastellist and engraver. He was a pupil of Jean Delvin and Louis Tytgat at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent and of Juliaan De Vriendt in Antwerp. Oscillating from realism to post-impressionism, he uses solid brushstrokes in vigorous colours. He was the painter of the streets of Brussels, the poor, the workers and the draft horses. Having won the Prix de Rome, he traveled between the wars in Italy and Spain. He radically changed the light and color of his painting and began to deal with happier themes, sea and port landscapes, market scenes, the bustle of a more serene life. Emile Thysebaert was a witness of his time. Works in the Museums of Pau and Saint-Josse-Ten-Noode. Artist listed in Bénézit (with sample signature), Arto and Piron (with work photo). Listed by Artprice, Artnet, Mayer, Akoun....
