By Édouard Joseph Alexandre Agneessens, 1842-1885, Belgian painter and in particular an excellent portraitist. A student of Jean-François Portaels at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, his hometown, he was part of the L'Art Libre group in 1860. In 1868, he was one of the founding members of the Société libre des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. Prix de Rome 1869. Between 1869 and 1870, he lived in Russia in Saint Petersburg. Shortly after, mental disorders led him to be interned in Uccle. He died there at the age of 42 on August 20, 1885. He was buried in the cemetery of Saint-Josse-ten-Noode in Schaerbeek. The pictorial layer is in excellent original condition.
Never cleaned and a little dirty, it has no repaints or repairs of any kind.
It is in a 1920 carved wooden frame with some minor normal wear.
