statuette of myoken it is dedification of the polar star. He is worshipped in Shingon, Tendai and Nichiren Buddhism. myoken means all-seeing one. he is especially revered by the Nichiren sect, as the protector of warriors, farmers and horses.
He is venerated at his temple Nose Myōkenzan 能勢妙見山 in Osaka . It's a Nichiren mecca, but you can also see Buddhist Shinto syncretism .
The box of this statuette bears the name of the temple.
Probably made at the end of the Meiji period, i.e. XIXth century.
