His training took place in the studio of master Guglielmo Micheli, he received guidance from Giovanni Fattori and became friends with Modigliani. Themes dear to the artist's heart are the pine forests of Ardenza, near Livorno, gardens, flowers, country roads and the seabed. In 1903, 1913, 1924 and 1952, he participated in the Venice Biennle, and in 1914 in the Internazionale in Rome. In 1920, together with other Leghorn artists, he founded the 'Labronico Group', of which he was president from 1943 to 1962. In 1926 and 1927 he was present at the 80th National Exhibition of Palazzo Pitti in Florence.
