"Bronze Mirror With Phoenixes China Tang 8th Century"
Greeting mirror with a polylobed shape, with a circular inner edge, it has an almost constant thickness and a flat reflective surface. The figurative elements are in relief on a smooth background. The two phoenixes (fenghuang) facing each other in a mirror are shown in profile with outstretched wings and hold two leaves in their beaks, on the sides are two pairs of pomegranates. Mirrors of this type defined as Nuptial, the two phoenixes chasing each other, the twig that year in their beak, the pomegranates, all alluding to the union of a couple and good luck. Silvered bronze with traces of bronze oxidation. Tang dynasty late 8th century.
