"Bronze "the German Shepherd", After Pa. Laplanche - Early 20th Century"
Bronze proof with bronze patina after Pierre-Albert Laplanche (1854-1935), representing a stationary German shepherd dog. Born in 1854 Laplanche studied in Reims before devoting himself to sculpture. Established in Château-Thierry, in the Aisne, he devoted himself to hunting with his German shepherd. His meticulous observation of animals oriented him towards animal sculpture. Coming relatively late to sculpture, he was an artist of great talent who exhibited to "French artists" and to the National Society. "The German Shepherd" is a touching work featuring his favorite animal. The dog stands still, gazing into the distance. A beautiful patina highlights his coat and the expression of his eyes. This faithful companion wears a partially studded collar. This endearing animal work will delight lovers of man's best friend and this breed of dog known for its great loyalty. ******** Period: Early 20th century Excellent condition.
