Robert Falcucci was born in Châteauroux in 1900, son of Joseph Falcucci, originally from the village of Verdesis in Corsica, and Solange Fabulet, originally from Berry.
He was introduced to drawing and painting by Cécile Cavaillé-Coll (1854-1944), painter and designer. He therefore received his first artistic training at the age of 12, in drawing and watercolor, before continuing his studies at the Academy of Passy, then at the School of Fine Arts. In 1919, he did his military service in Paris. Released too late from his military obligations, he could not compete at the School of Fine Arts, but was admitted to the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris. He continued to maintain close relations with the Cavaillé-Coll family, in particular with Cécile's brother, Emmanuel Cavaillé-Coll (1860-1922), a renowned decorator and watercolourist from whom he learned a great deal.
