A feverish monk with eyes shining with love holds the forgotten shoe of a distracted young woman.
Rather rare and comical representation of a fetishist monk.
What is referred to as "gouache habillée" is a technique combining a full-length portrait with gouache on paper "dressed" with fabrics for the parts of the body except the face, the hands and the landscape. Typical of the 18th century, the subjects often being picturesque characters such as pedlars, beggars, peasants, couples of lovers.
It is necessary to distinguish the dressed gouaches from the dressed engravings whose technique is different.
Very good general condition, period frame (small accidents).
