PANTHER on the lookout in Carrara marble signed Henri MARCHAND (1887-1960) - Pupil of RODIN Length: 20 cm with base 21.5 cm Width: 11 cm Height: 6 cm with base 11 cm Henri Marchand (1887-1960) is a Franco-American sculptor known for his detailed museum dioramas. Born in France, Marchand studied with Auguste Rodin. In the early 1900s, he and his wife Clothilde, also an artist, emigrated to the United States. Marchand began working as a diorama artist at the New York State Museum. His work on the museum's Iroquois dioramas, inaugurated in 2, earned him recognition [1918]. [3] In 1925, Marchand and his family moved to Buffalo, New York, where he and his sons Paul and George were to build dioramas for the Buffalo Museum of Science. Although much of the work created by the Merchants is no longer on display, some can still be seen, particularly in the museum's Wildflower Room.
