The original portrait watercolor of a young woman in a white dress was executed in 1843 by one of the best portrait painters of the Viennese Biedermeier era Josef Kriehuber. Josef Kriehuber (1800 - Vienna - 1876). He is a very important name in the history of 19th century Viennese art. Already at the age of 7 he received drawing lessons from his older brother and at the age of 13 (1813) he became a pupil at the Vienna Academy where he studied until 1818. He lived 4 years in Poland in as the family art teacher. of Prince Sanguszko. In 1822 he returned to Vienna to attend the Academy again in 1823/24. At that time, he became one of the best Viennese lithographers. At first, the subjects of his lithographs were copies of works by Schwind, Hoechle, Klein, etc. as well as his own studies of horses and military scenes. In 1825, he began to devote himself to portrait lithography. During this period, he made various portraits of renowned personalities of the aristocracy, musicians, writers, actors and academics. From around 1830 Kriehuber began to produce portraits also in watercolour, which made him one of Vienna's most sought-after portrait painters. In 1860, he became a member of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.
