Jean-Jules Salmson (Paris 1823 - Coupvray 1902) - French sculptor, medalist and illustrator, son of a medal engraver. Pupil of Ramey, Toussaint and Dumont. He started at the Paris Salon in 1859 and sculpted marble, ivory and bronze. He participated in the construction of major Parisian buildings: the Opera, the Tuileries Palace and the Commercial Court. After 1870, he stayed in London, then in Geneva, where he directed the school of industrial arts (1877-1891). The artist's works are kept in museums, notably in Paris, Angers, Chamonix and Copenhagen.
