"Jules Delvincourt (paris 1873 - Bayonne 1953) "la Nive Near Bayonne" Oil/panel Signed 60x81"
Jules Delvincourt (Paris 1873 - Bayonne 1953) La Nive near Bayonne Oil on Panel signed lower left and located in Bayonne in 1936 Dimensions: 60 x 81 cms Jules Delvincourt is considered a Bayonnais disciple of the Impressionist school, who often painted landscapes of the banks of the Adour and the Nive. The Bayonne museum has a dozen works by this artist similar in style to our painting. The Bayonne museum informed us that there was confusion in the early 1970s as to the artist's first name. In the museum's visitors' book, his works are listed under the name of J. Delvincourt and all his paintings are signed J. Delvincourt. An article by Henri Jeanpierre in the Bulletin du Musée Basque names him “Claude Delvincourt” but this is an error possibly linked to the composer Claude Delvincourt. Then, this text served as a reference for Gilles Desport in his dictionary of Basque painters and a second article confirmed the misunderstanding. But it is indeed Jules Delvincourt and that is how he should be called.
