This beautiful little painting is typical of the plein air painting practised by the generation of artists of the Barbizon School. It is located - the mention is currently hidden under the frame - Escoublac, which corresponds today to the famous seaside resort of La Baule-Escoublac. This one developed only from 1876 onwards and was before that, as we can see, only a series of dunes. But the place was obviously already remarkable..
Another remarkable interest is its horizontal format which allows to see this set of wild dunes whose small silhouettes of characters give the scale. The painter is clearly fascinated by this expanse of wild dunes and the romantic feeling it inspires
