"J. Breynat (xxth) - The Restoration Of The Bretons"
J. BREYNAT (20th century) Oil on cardboard 20 x 30 cm (28 X 38 cm with the frame) Signed and dated lower left "J. Breynat / 1921" Beautiful carved wooden frame from the 19th century This anecdotal scene shows the restoration of Bretons near an open-air stall, perhaps an excerpt from a village festival. This scene of life is dated 1921 and it can be located in Brittany, probably in the Bigouden country in Cornouaille. The woman's headdress is particularly reminiscent of certain women in Gauguin's paintings at Pont-Aven.
