"Canteen Of Cutlery, Sterling Silver, Art Nouveau, Model 2401, Brückmann For The Paris Expo 1900"
Extremely rare Art Nouveau period cutlery set in solid silver, designed by goldsmith Peter Brückmann for his participation in the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900. This is the fifth Universal Exhibition in Paris during the nineteenth century. Its theme is "the balance sheet of the century". For the exhibition, the new Gare d'Orsay and the first metro line are inaugurated. At the end of the nineteenth century, for the first time since the Napoleonic era, a truly new style appeared. It is not inspired by the many styles that have preceded it over the past centuries, it is not eclectic but seeks new asymmetrical and vegetal forms. Art Nouveau or Jugendstil was born. Peter Brückmann invests heavily in the production of cutlery and silverware in this style. Model 2401 or "Irismuster", its catalog presents no less than sixty different service pieces and for each guest more than twenty different table settings are available for sale. Buyers of this set had their weapons engraved on table cutlery, teaspoons and dinner knives and dessert knives. The other cutlery is not engraved. The knives still have their original blades.
