Oil on canvas representing the portrait in uniform of the Swiss federal colonel Willem Friedrich Herteinstein born in 1825 and died in 1888. Trained at the industrial school of Zurich, a graduate of the Forestry School of Saxony, he is a cantonal forest inspector. Member of the Grand Council of Zurich from 1858 to 1872. Lieutenant of artillery during the Sonderbund war where he passed the Forvellina pass to two batteries of mountain artillery in the summer of 1861. After this act of bravery he entered the State Council of Canton of Zürich. He oversees military affairs. As President of the Swiss Confederation, he had to have his leg amputated. He died in 1888 and embodied the Swiss character.
