Germany Genre Scene Children On Swings Painting By Princess Marie Alexandrine

Painted in June of 1874 in Bad Driburg by gifted painter Princess Marie Alexandrine of Saxe - Weimar - Eisenach (1849 – 1922), eldest daughter and second child of Charles Alexander, Grand Duke of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach and his wife Princess Sophie of the Netherlands. Playing children outdoors was a pretty common genre subject for its epoque. But let’s see what is unusual here: The young princess studied painting and made a portrait of the popular teacher August Allebé in 1886, which indicates that she probably attended a few of his open studio lessons for ladies in Amsterdam, but also indicated that she had not given up painting after her marriage.
Size app.: 70.5 x 43 cm (roughly 27.75 x 17 in). Painted in oils on canvas. Very Good. Minimal wear, may require simple re-tension. Please study good resolution images for overall cosmetic condition.
