Charming little oil on cardboard representing the kiosk of an ice cream parlor and its many customers in a wooded park; oil signed A.Prugent at the bottom right and dated September 1, 1952. This lively scene can be located in a park in the city of Périgueux such as the Jardin des Arènes or the barnabé or Campniac guingette, as many places as A.Prugent, native of Périgueux and trader in this city, had pleasure in painting with bright and varied colors and an impressionist touch, thus offering a snapshot of Périgourdine life, its youth and its distractions. He attended the drawing school whose director was the painter Jean-Louis Daniel who made it his favorite, so that at 18 he was already exhibiting his paintings at the Société des Beaux Arts. On his return from the war he resumed his brushes: he liked to be in the Périgourdine countryside with Emile Chaumont, Gustave Chérifel, André Saigne to take on the spot and in a daring style in the movement of impressionism, the play of light, the sun, which make the charm of this region: some of his works evoke Van Goth! In 1929, he was received by the French Artists and exhibited there until 1939. A landscape painter, with a prolific work, but also a portraitist and illustrator, André Prugent is considered one of the most talented painters of the School of Perigueux.
