"Bacchus As A Teenager, After Antonin Carles"
Bronze statue representing Bacchus in his adolescence inviting us to share his drink, he is accompanied by a panther, an animal associated with this god. Bronze produced by the Susse frères foundry in Paris during the first quarter of the 20th century, after the sculpture by Antonin Carlès dated 1903. The nuanced green patina is original, cast of good quality, the Antonin Carles signature appears on the base. Born in 1851 in Gimont (Gers), Antonin Carlès after passing through the Beaux-Arts in Marseille then Toulouse continued his training as a sculptor in Paris with François Jouffroy and Ernest Hiolle. Joining the Society of French Artists, his works will be exhibited at the Salon from 1878 to 1914, his sculptures adorning the largest public buildings they are also present in national museums. He will obtain a Grand Prix at the Universal Exhibition of 1889 and will be named to the rank of Commander of the Legion of Honor.
