The word brassware comes from the name of the town of Dinant in Belgium which was, together with Liège, Namur, Huy and the whole of the Meuse valley in the Middle Ages, a flourishing center of copper and brass work. Brassware then referred to the casting of brass, whereas today this word refers to the art of beating metal, mainly copper but also tin, nickel silver, brass and giving it shape with a hammer.
