Born in 1895 and died in 1975 in Paris, Eugène Paul, known as Gen Paul is a French painter. This artist particularly marked the history of French expressionism with his gouaches, drawings, engravings and lithographs. In the 1920s, he moved away from his friends Utrillo, Leprin or Génin in order to create his own form of expressionism where movement and faces take a prominent place. In 1928, he participated in an exhibition at the Bing gallery with the artists Picasso, Braque and Soutine. In the 1930s, exhausted by too intense a life, the artist came close to death. This event leads him to a new artistic evolution characterized by the use of lighter colors, a more apparent drawing line and the artist widens the choice of themes treated. After 1945, he returned to oil paintings and gouache, drew a lot and produced works on Paris and on the musicians he frequented, he witnessed the creative atmosphere of Montmartre. He then becomes an essential artist.
