"Buddha Myanmar Mandalay"
This Burmese image of the historic Buddha Shakyamuni, makes a gesture known as bhumisparsha-mudra, or "calling the earth to witness." Made in bronze, using lost wax, the work dates from the 19th century, Mandalay period (1853-1948). The craftsman paid particular attention to the expression of serenity and compassion, in particular by using glass or enamels to create his eyes. Vestiges of gilding, later, on the ushnisha. Provenance: Estate of collector and art dealer Claude de Marteau. Sold with certificate of authenticity. H 43CM XP 18.5CM XL 32.5CM. Weight 7.2 Kg
