"Burma / Laos Bronze Rain Drum"
Bronze rain drum with brown/green archaeological patina. The tympanum is richly decorated with several concentric registers separated by listels, adorned in the center with a twelve-pointed star and embellished with 4 pairs of frogs at the cardinal points, a symbol of fertility. Geometric patterns, flowers, fish,… can be guessed under the patina and the concretions. Flanked by two pairs of handles and a pair of elephants. Probably Burma or Laos, 19th century. Very good state of preservation. Provenance: Estate of collector and art dealer Claude de Marteau. Sold with certificate of authenticity. H 65 CM Diameter 45 CM
