"Book Covers, Bhutan"
Very rare Bhutanese prayer book covers in high density exotic wood. The upper part is decorated with three deities, in the center Chenrezi, also known as Avalokitesvara, the Bodhisattva of compassion, represented under a torana, the Kirtimuka in the center. On his left Mahakala the protector of Dharma, on his right probably Manjusri the Bodhisattva of knowledge. The lower part of the book is carved with representations of a stylized lotus in a cartouche composed of lotus petals, repairing a crack visible in the photo. Early 20th century, collected in the 80s in the Kathmandu valley.
