BIOGRAPHY: Jack CLEMENTE (1926 - 1974)
1926:  born in Novare (Italy) from an Italian father and an Irish mother. In Novara he obtained a degree in literature and philosophy.
1946: begins to study at the Brera Academy, Milan
1952 : goes to Paris where he frequents the cultural milieu of the French capital and becomes friends with Foujita, Michaux, Corneille, Arnal, Campigli, Giacometti and other important personalities
1953:  his first personal exhibition at the Galerie de la Muette in Paris
1955: took part in the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles and maintained contacts with the Italian art scene.
The same year, he was invited to the IX Lisson Award.
1956: Guido Le Noci, director of the Appolinaire gallery, invites Clemente to Milan for a personal exhibition organized by Jacqueline Matisse. His participation in Italian collective exhibitions are very frequent: the same year he participated in the exhibition "Maestri e giovani pittori d'oggi" at the Appolinaire.
1957: Clemente exhibits his works at the “Collettiva 15 giovani pittori” at the Blu Gallery in Milan (with Baj, Bertini, Scanavino, Crippa, Dova). The same year, he was invited for the second time to the X Lisson Award.
1958 :  meets Carlo Cardazzo and Lucio Fontana and other protagonists of Spatialism and begins to develop an abstract style based on images of prehistory and geological processes; has an important exhibition at the Drian Gallery in London, where he will also be present in an exhibition in March 1960.
1962:  first solo exhibition at the Gallery del Naviglio in Milan, exhibiting works that emphasize the search for balance between matter and space. In the 1960s he abandoned oil painting and began to work with assemblages of "non-artistic" objects such as wood and rope.
