"Bernard Morteyrol, 1942-2019, Narrative Figuration"
Bernard Morteyrol lived in Paris for almost 40 years. He then came to settle in the Var, first in Aups, for 5 years, then in Villecroze where he has lived and worked since 1985 and died in 2019. However, he did not become an artist who would only paint landscapes, as the trees, the hills, the flowers and the skies of the South. He remained what he always was, a man of today, informed, open, permeable to others and to what is happening around him. He chose to live in a village, he appreciates and loves this life. But that doesn't mean he's withdrawn or cut himself off from the modern world. So, let's say for simplicity that Morteyrol is someone from the city and the countryside, from television and nature, from the authenticity of lived experience and the artificiality of stereotypes and clichés. This "and" is important because it constitutes the sign of addition.
