Biography: Chauvelon Gabriel was born in 1875 in Nantes, France.

He was a painter who shows us an aspect of the rustic life of North France, the energetic silhouette of a woman of Brittany, landscapes with the views of numerous locations in the Island’s in the northern coast of Brittany.

The Island of Bréhat will not only inspire the painter to create a luminous landscapes faithful to reality, but also to meet Symbolist artists of that time which came to spend some time in this small and favourable territory for meditation.  Among them was a French portrait painter and artist Henri-Paul Mottez (1855-1937), French Symbolist and artist Alexandre Séon (1855-1917), French Symbolist painter and activist Ary Renan(1857- 1900).

Some of the paintings of Chauvelon were done in a pointillist technique.

He spend some time on the Island, but his preference went to the South Finistère, Camaret-sur-Mer, Quimperlé and Tréboul, in the Western of Brittany. 

He was a member of Salon des Artistes Français and a faithful exhibitor. He exhibits there the painting “ A view of the Port-Clos in Bréhat”  in 1923 with great success. He also exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants in 1924. 

Today, Chauvelon’s works can be found in public and private collections worldwide. Through his work he reminds us of the charming atmosphere of Northern France and takes us back again and again across the waters and landscapes.
