Born from a family of sailors from the Loire, Constant Le Breton was accepted as an apprentice in Nantes, then in Le Mans. He was admitted to the School of Decorative Arts in Paris, but could not follow the courses for lack of scholarship. His parents then made him join a painter specializing in shop fronts, then he worked in Le Mans with a decorator. Mobilized in 1915, he waged war in the Dardanelles and in the East. After the armistice, he moved to Paris and joined the Amoroso brothers, theater designers, then he devoted himself to wood engraving. He acquired a good reputation as a book illustrator (Charles Maurras, Joseph Kessel, Colette...)
He obtained a grant from the Blumenthal Foundation as a reward for his war drawings and quickly established himself in painting. He became friends with his elders Maximilien Luce, André Derain, André Dunoyer de Segonzac, or his contemporaries Robert Antral, Paul Belmondo and Yves Brayer.
His works have joined museums: Museum of Modern Art in Paris, Carnavalet Museum, Petit Palais, Breton Departmental Museum of Quimper, Museum of Fine Arts in Angers...
