Beautiful Louis XVI chest of drawers stamped Magnien, inlaid with precious wood and topped with a magnificent and thick Brèche d'Alep marble from Thonolet, fitted with cut sides and a groove. Claude-Mathieu Magnien (1741-1829) is a renowned Parisian Cabinetmaker. Master in 1771, he worked successfully even under the Empire. Towards the end of the reign of Louis XVI, he made furniture for the Crown. This chest of drawers has three drawers whose fronts present in the center a rosewood veneer in four sheets, in butterfly wings. This composition is surrounded by a wide net composed of alternating rectangles of lemon tree and ebony. Around, a rosewood frame positioned in vertical wire is delimited by a net of lemon tree then a strip of kingwood. These drawers open with "ring" handles with badge. These are in chased bronze like the keyholes in the center, surmounted by a Louis XVI knot. The original locks are in perfect working order and accompanied by later bronze keys. This piece of furniture is fitted with dust covers, the sides and bottoms of the drawers are in oak. This chest of drawers has canted uprights, inlaid alternately with lemon and ebony fillets. Above, beautiful bronze falls adorn the uprights which end in slightly curved legs and a sculpted bronze shoe. The sides feature a wide open book veneer of rosewood.
