Louis XVI Mirror

Gilded Louis XVI mirror. Most certainly Parisian work, entirely borrowed from a floral decoration characteristic of the Louis XVI style. Neoclassical moulding, it is punctuated by a garland of varied flowers and foliage, of a high quality of motifs and sculpture, nervous and opulent which evoke certain seats by Georges Jacob. Beautiful matt and burnished gilding. The construction of the whole is rigorous, work from an ornamentalist or an excellent draftsman carpenter? Additional sign of quality, the fields are also gilded. The mirror is decorated at its base with a central mask consisting of a head topped with a basket filled with flowers and leaves. From her mouth emerges a floral and leafy garland. At the lower corners, from each rosette starts a garland composed in a differentiated way of roses, daisies, anemones, other flowers and leaves winding rhythmically around the uprights and ends at the top of the wand in the shape of a basket handle. The whole is surmounted by a bed of bay leaves topped with a knot (partly missing) in a wreath of flowers and leaves. On the molded baguette, bay leaves and ribbon combine matt and browned.
