"Louverture Fish Haiti"
Louverture Poisson 1914/1985 painter from Haiti interior scene as he liked to paint Louverture Poisson was born in the city of Les Cayes in 1914. He came to Port-au-Prince in 1942 to enlist in the army of the air force and joined the Art Center in 1948. Although Poisson served in the Haitian Air Force and wore the uniform with pride, his military experience did not stimulate his historical interest. When turning to historical themes, the narrative is unaffected and overshadowed by the meticulous formality of the work. The story seems to have been more of a pretext, allowing him to produce elaborate and lively compositions, very different from his intimate interiors and peaceful rural scenes. Poisson's obsession with the representation of light is continuous in his wide-ranging work. Gérald Alexis, in his book Haitian Painters, depicts his work as a long pilgrimage to perfection in images drawn from his surroundings. Louverture Poisson died in 1985 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
