Titled and signed on the back of the frame, it is a very accomplished sketch, perhaps for a large decor. Jules Machard (1839-1900), painter of history and portraits born in Sampans (Jura) and died in Bellevue (Rhône). He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and received the first Grand Prix de Rome in 1865.
