Imposing element in gilded wood dating from the end of the XVII th century.
It consists of an accumulation of acanthus leaves in very high relief converging towards a man's face even coming out of acanthus leaves.
the whole is spectacular and of very good quality, carved from a single block of linden.
a beautiful monoxyle sculpture which originally must have belonged to a much larger set:
an altarpiece , a huge frame !! the aspect is southern perhaps Italian and the quality of the sculpture of the face recalls certain faces of the comedia del arte etc ...
the gilding is still in good condition and shows the red of Armenians in places.
be careful, this gilded wood is really large:
86 cm high by 31 cm wide and 11 cm deep.
it can stand upright by itself despite the ideal would be to fix it.
it is well more beautiful and much more spectacular in reality. it is hard to imagine the work that such an element in gilded wood, entirely carved by hand, can represent!
a beautiful element in carved and gilded wood, very decorative, with a real presence.
