Piet Moget ((1928-2015) Trees In Flower, Oil On Canvas, Signed and dated '53 44 x 56.6 cm. With frame 54 x 67 cm From 1954, the Mediterranean landscape is increasingly highlighted in his work. He placed his easel around "la Grange Basse", near the Frescati castle, in the Rieu garden, near the Port-la-Nouvelle cemetery. Faithful to the lessons of the painters of The Hague and Paul Cézanne, he paints his motif. Moget cannot paint indoors; he needs something to cling to. Nature is in fact his main example. In 1955, Geer van Velde comes to Cachan to meet Piet Moget. Thus was born a long friendship. Moget considered him his "spiritual father". In 1956, his "own" colors became more and more pearly, more iridescent. The shape of the outlines was less and less pronounced, the horizon was more and more present, the sky takes more and more importance.From about 1956, Moget gets into the habit of painting on the quays of Port la Nouvelle with a small van. The central themes of his work are the canal, the dam, the sea and space. From the beach or the wharf he worked on his canvases from his mini motorhome. The sea did not need to see Moget directly. Only this thin, almost invisible line between the earth and the sky was enough for him to capture the atmosphere on the canvas. From 1956 to 1964, he organized "Meetings around contemporary art" in Languedoc-Roussillon. Works by Geer van Velde, Roger Bissière, Nicolas de Staël, Maurice Esteve, Charles Lapicque, André Lanskoy, Serge Poliakoff, Yves Tanguy, Fernand Léger, among others, Les cobras and many others brought Moget together. Later, Moget also contributed to the creation of the Center d'art contemporain de Sérignan with exhibitions by Jacques Villon, Joan Miró and exhibitions for other museums.
