"Zoomorphic Jug Teapot, Pewter Duck, China XIXth Century"
Rare and very original Chinese teapot in the shape of a duck, made of embossed and chiseled pewter. The duck's beak serves as a spout. The top of the beak is decorated with copper and the eyes are in turquoise. Brass nets underline the outline of the beak, the eyes, the tail, as well as the edge of the lid. The two handles that fold down on either side of the lid are also made of brass. The interior of the teapot is stamped with sinograms that remain to be deciphered. Note a small crack at the base of the lid button, as well as a slight chip on the edge of one of the turquoise eyes (see detailed photos). In China, the duck is the symbol of union, fidelity and marital happiness, because it lives as a couple all its life without changing partners. Weight: 545 grams.
