"Saint John Nepomucene, XVIIIth."
Spectacular relief plaque in gilded wood. An unusual scene depicting soldiers holding a man with a crowned head from a bridge over a river. This is the martyrdom of Saint John Nepomucene, thrown from a bridge in Prague in the 14th century. He is recognizable by his fur cape, because he was the son of a shepherd. He was canonized in the 18th century (time of this panel). The format is important, the original gilding is worn in places. In its own juice and rare!
