"Palempore Painted With Calame - South Indies Circa 1860"
Circa 1860-1880 South Indies Beautiful Indian Palempore entirely mordançé and painted by hand with Calame on very fine white cotton. Design with large central medallion loaded with tassels and four boteh spandrels. Wide border with urns and flowery crescents alternating with braided knots adorned with tassels of European trimmings. Beautiful indigo, cochineal red and yellow vegetal colors. The green is obtained by brushed superposition of the yellow on the blue. In one corner, reference of the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, collection of Carlotta Mabury, object of a de-accession. No flaws, very fresh colors. Excellent state of conservation. Dimensions: 200cm x 250cm.
