Louis Cabié, artist renowned in France and particularly in the Bordeaux region, even during his lifetime, circulated in the great southwest throughout of his life. A pupil of Harpignies whose passion for vegetation can be found in the manner of the Barbizon school, he will transcribe until his death the simplicity of picturesque French landscapes. Spectacular trees, forest atmospheres, places steeped in history, captivating valleys, or even a landscape in its simplest form that it will know how to bring out a vital contrast.
From 1890, Louis-Alexandre Cabié crisscrossed the banks of the Vézère in all weathers and in different seasons. It is in the town of Eyzies in Dordogne that he spent a large part of his time, and where he married for a second time in 1894. Several hundred works have been produced on the banks of this river, which are for the majority not located today.
This painting most certainly made in the fall of 1900, gives us a vision of the east-west axis of the course of the Beune, a stream flowing into the Vézère a few tens of meters downstream from the village of Les Eyzies. This beautiful format presents in the background of the composition the cliffs overlooking the Vézère.
Do not hesitate to ask us for the iconography of the other paintings representing this place.
