Representation of a horse. Senoufo. Ivory Coast. Hardwood with old patina of use, the legs are fixed with nails. Length: 54 cm. H: 33 cm Representation in wood of a saddled horse which was to participate in a phase of the initiation to the “poro”. The Senufo also know the wooden horses used during various ceremonies: the departure to war, hunting, or the closing of funerals. The Senufo animal is entirely made of wood. Its rider is a choreographer-puppeteer who straddles this harnessed mount to prance. Early 20th century
