Rare ancient Meina, Persian, from the group of Heriz rugs, Iran (Azerbaijan) around 1900.
In wool on cotton, hand-knotted, natural colours. White cotton warp. Turkish knot for 84000 knots per m2.
The double weft is in blue cotton, clearly visible on these rugs. The wool pile is of medium thickness, and has soft colors.
This rug has beautiful shades of color, developed over time as well as a very abundant decor. In very good collectible condition.
Usual wear. From the small town of Heriz which lies about fifty kilometers east of Tabriz, along with its neighbor Ghorovan, come some of the most easily recognizable Persian rugs, the Heriz.
Around the Hériz have developed other genera with many similarities but also many differences.
The model that I present to you, a Meina, is one of these other genres.
The Meina come from the village of the same name and are recognized thanks to the colors specific to this type of model.
Ten colors compose them: 3 red, 2 blue, 1 green, 1 black, 1 white, 1 yellow, 1 chestnut.
They are recognized mainly in the design of medallions on a red background color, the curvi-linear designs so typical of Persia have little place in the Heriz.
The designs are almost completely angular, as the nearest features of the Caucasus are not far to the north.
Three superimposed central motifs in the shape of a large star, has a stylized floral decoration, with relatively geometric lines.
A very large flower extends this medallion and adorns the corners.
The border on a midnight blue background has large rosettes separated by leaves and lines.
# Different models found in the Heriz type, each with their own design:
the Ahar, the Ahmed-Abad, the Bakhshayesh, the Bilverdi, the Chekh Radjab, the Karadje (quite common), the Kilvana, the Kordlar, the Meina (our model), the Charabiyan, the Merovan, the Markit, the Lanbaran, the Ardebil, the Mechkin, the Sarab.
In front of this exhaustive list of sixteen styles for a single type, who can say that the carpet is a simple art ?
These woven and colored carpets are very resistant and make an ideal decoration for large rooms, and it can be considered that today some good pieces are still woven.
This rug has been professionally and environmentally cleaned.
Dimensions: Width: 215 cm (84") x Length: 277 cm (108") Period of creation: ## Under the Kadjar dynasty or Kadjars:
( Qājār, Qadjar, Qajar, Persian: قاجار ) is a Turkmen dynasty which reigns over Iran from 1786 to 1925.
This rug has been professionally and environmentally cleaned.
Traces of very light wear, which gives this type of ethnic rug its authentic character.
A pretty piece due to its construction and the quality of the wools and the design.
