Gustave Halbart (1846-1913)
is a Belgian painter of portraits, genre scenes, landscapes. He participated in the Universal Exhibition in Brussels in 1910.
His paintings are fresh with a light and lively touch. Often overlooked in the history of art, women artists emerged only at the end of the 19th century.

Some women have established themselves as Artemisia Gentileschi in the Renaissance or Elisabeth Vigée Lebrun, the painter of Marie-Antoinette.

Even if we see some female talents exhibiting from 1860 at the Paris Salon, the institutional artistic career is closed to women. The School of Fine Arts is forbidden to them, official orders for original works are rare.
