"Paul Guth Nancy School, Set Of 4 Art Nouveau Inlaid Nesting Tables, Circa 1900"
Set of four nesting tables made by Paul Guth around 1900, marquetry signature in the decor (see image). Typical Art Nouveau floral decor, landscape of water, pond, irises, willows and characters... Very stable and in very good condition, note a small lack of veneer and a crack (details see arrows in red on the 2 latest pictures). Biography: Paul Guth, pseudonym of Auguste Guillaume Guth, is a French cabinetmaker, born in 1878 in Oron and died in 1918 in Laxou. He moved to Nancy around 1903 where he opened his furniture factory in the wake of the Nancy School (Louis Majorelle, Emile Gallé, Eugène Vallin... His production consists of many small inlaid pieces of furniture in the Art Nouveau style ( consoles, sellettes, tea tables, etc. and more important furniture, such as beds or desks. His furniture is generally signed in Paul Guth marquetry. The School of Nancy is the spearhead of Art Nouveau in France , whose essential inspiration is to be found in plant forms (ginkgo, iris, lily, pennywort, giant hogweed, water lily, thistle, gourd, etc.) and animals (dragonflies, butterflies, etc.). relies on an extensive search for use in glassware, ironwork, steel, wood, to put beauty in everyone's hands and thus bring art into homes.
