"Dish, Arita Porcelain Kakiemon Style. Deer Decor In Cobalt Blue. Japan Late 17th Century."
Hard porcelain dish from the Arita Kilns. Decor painted in cobalt blue underglaze high-fired. A couple of fallow deer are represented in an autumnal landscape. It would seem that the female is reluctant to fall mating because she is lying down while the male at her side rears up desperately to attract attention. In the background clouds (erotic symbol of the "game of clouds and rain") and a maple tree for autumn. On the right a weeping willow tree symbolic of lovers. The small building on right seems to be a hut? from which starts a chain from which are suspended 2 elements whose meaning escapes us. Are these clan emblems, like the "Mon", in this case it would be the representation of 2 families which would be united by a marriage. Which would confirm the attitude of the deer. Excellent execution, the deers are beautifully drawn, full of life, the blue is bright. On the reverse the Fuku mark.Good condition except for a long chip on the edge restored with Kinsugi type gold powdered lacquer. We have 4 (maybe 6) dishes of this model which are, from memory, all in good condition and at the same price as this one because we feel that the Kinsugi repair is an added charm.. Diameter: 197mm
